I have stayed here over the last 12 years and the elevators are a huge issue!! And they cannot seem to get it right. You can be stopping on every floor on the way down. I will not stay here again. It truly makes the stay frustrating and annoying. The rooms are ok, the lobby area is crowded. Great location but below average overall.

Good hotel in a great location

We enjoyed our three nights at this hotel. It is in a perfect location steps away from circular quay and all the ferries and most cruise departures. It also a short walk to the opera house. The rooms are small and lifts very very busy in the mornings. The staff were all quite friendly with Solomon being a particular gem. His kindness and helpfulness are a real credit to the hotel. This is definitely the place to stay if you want to be close to the harbour and all the activities there.

Avoid hotel- (lack of) elevators ruin everything

The elevator experience made every other aspect of our stay terrible. The staff tried their best to be helpful, but quickly became overwhelmed at the chaos because of the terrible elevator system. Rooms- small but comfortable; nice view of the harbor. Executive lounge is a nice perk- breakfast and evening appetizers and drinks. Location is convenient to ferries, etc. All that to say, we have stayed here a few times and remind ourselves after each time to never stay at this hotel again. I’m writing this review to remind myself. The elevator system is terrible- too few elevators for size of hotel, and when the perfect storm of organized tour to cruise ship for 500+ 65+ YO’s, with giant suitcases- it was a disaster. It took us 45 minutes to get us and our bags to the lobby, we heard of people that were stranded on their floor for over an hour trying to get an elevator. There are signs up about repairs being made, but these signs have been up at least since June 2023, with zero progress it appears- this hotel knows they have a captive audience given location, if you’re doing your own booking avoid this hotel unless you enjoy watching 20 packed elevators open and close before there’s enough space to wedge yourself- and maybe your suitcase- onto one.

We have stayed here over seven times and they do Brilliant! Less than 5 minutes walk to Circular Quay Ferry Terminal or 10 minute walk to Opera House. At check-in they offer shower/rest area since room not ready since our overnight flight arrival at 11:00 am. Because we are Marriott members we were upgrade due to status. All Marriott Members of certain levels get Concierge Service. One of Best Decisions of Life... we focus on Marriott hotels or affiliates. This time in March, we booked Harbor Bridge view and Ben at hotel upgraded us due to our Marriott Status. Excellent view and separate suite room! At Concierge Lounge, we and other customers were welcomed by Relove (supervisor) and Riley, Zenith, Joey, Nancy, Grace and others. Relove was especially kind and gave us travel trips and greeted us daily by names...Impressive! Later, we met Assistant Front Desk Manager Mr Luu who Thanked Us for our Marriott Loyalty and other guests also! Excellent Management Team here Subject: Sydney Marriott Circular Quay Again: Best Hotel in Southern Hemisphere! Staying at Marriott Hotels and Affiliates rank among Best Decisions of Life for travel! They have trained Front Desk and Guest Relations Team Excellent! They are very friendly and speak excellent English. After staying here, we travel and will be staying again.

Overpriced and underwhelming

Arrived at the Marriott Sydney after 8pm to check in with 3 other work colleagues (seperate rooms booked) Hotel only offers valet parking at $110 per night, but it took a while to find the bell hop to sort this. When I was checking, I provided my Marriott Bonvoy membership number so the 2 night stay could register for membership. The person checking me in (Jimmy), provided me hotel information. We hadn’t had dinner and I asked what time the restaurant (Sylvester’s) stops serving food. He proceeded to tell me the restaurant was closed on Wednesday. I was assigned room 817. My other colleagues all checked in with other personnel and were assigned rooms on high floors. One colleague had requested the menus for the restaurants as it was getting late and we wanted dinner. One menu was for Sylvester’s which she was told was open and stopped serving at 10, which was clearly printed on the menu? Room 817 overlooked a high rise construction site and office block, with construction noise heard in my room at 7am sharp with bright hot lights from the site and office building next door. No mini bar in room (tea and coffee only).l which I was surprised about. The room itself was dated in comparison to other Sydney hotels. The bathroom shower pressure wasn’t great at all. I decided to order room service for dinner. Was not able to order a glass of wine, only bottles. The cheapest was $28 for 375ml, so maybe take your own. Salmon with 2 sides was $42. (For comparison a beef burger was $30). Then I was told it’s an $8 service charge for room service. The food was presented beautifully and the lady who delivered it was lovely. It tasted fine, however recommended eating at Customs house or something for more variety and may be a bit cheaper. (It was 9:10pm by time I checked in to room and ordered so wanted to get to bed). Lifts were slow. I waited 15 mins for one I could fit in on one occasion. Location to Circular Quay is the biggest draw card to stay at this hotel, but there are others in close proximity that definitely offer better value for money. This one just is not worth what they charge per night. I was disappointed.
